And if you’re anything like I was, you’ve probably tried to push through it.
Ignore it.
Suppress it.
Distract yourself.
Carry on like nothing’s wrong.
I did all of that.
And it only made it worse.

When I think back to that time, it wasn’t just “anxiety.”
It was physical.
A tightness in my chest that never really left.
A constant sense of panic, like something bad was about to happen.
My body felt wired, alert, on edge, even when there was no real threat in front of me.
I remember being at work one day, and something shifted.
There was this awareness in my body. Almost like a presence.
I felt it before I could explain it.
And I remember thinking:
“Something’s not right here.”
Not in a dramatic way. Just this quiet knowing.
What Survival Mode Actually Is (And Why It’s Not a Flaw)
Survival mode isn’t weakness.
It’s your nervous system doing exactly what it’s designed to do.
Your body has one job: keep you safe.
When it senses threat, real or perceived, it activates:
- Fight
- Flight
- Freeze
- Fawn
This is your nervous system’s threat response.
The problem is… it doesn’t always switch off.

And if your system has been under stress for a long time, it doesn’t just switch off because your environment looks calm.
2. Your nervous system is conditioned, not conscious
This isn’t a mindset issue.
It’s automatic.

You’re not choosing this response. Your body is running it.
3. You’re carrying unprocessed stress
This was the biggest shift for me.
Nothing just disappears.
Every time I ignored it, suppressed it, or pushed through… it stayed in my body.
And it built up.
Until eventually, my system couldn’t keep up anymore.
I actually had blood work done not too long ago and everything came back depleted.
My doctor told me my body was worn down.
Burnout. Nervous system overload. PTSD.
Not just something I was “feeling.”
Something my body was showing.

And none of it worked.
