ABOUT SY • FOUNDER OF THE INNER GROWTH PATH
I Built the Path I Needed When My Life Fell Apart
I’m Sarah “Sy” Taylor—a former police officer and first responder writing from lived experience of PTSD, betrayal, career loss and identity collapse.
I created The Inner Growth Path to offer the grounded explanations, practical tools and compassionate guidance I needed when I no longer recognised myself.
The Inner Growth Path is a trauma-informed education platform created by Sarah “Sy” Taylor to help people rebuild after heartbreak, trauma, burnout and emotional collapse.
You do not have to rebuild everything at once. You only need somewhere safe to begin.

FORMER FIRST RESPONDER
Nearly a decade of frontline policing and lived experience of trauma and PTSD.
WRITING FROM LIVED EXPERIENCE
Personal understanding of betrayal, career loss and rebuilding after identity collapse.
GROUNDED, TRAUMA-INFORMED EDUCATION
Plain-English explanations, practical reflection and compassionate guidance.

WHY THIS SPACE EXISTS
I Reached a Point Where I No Longer Recognised Myself
For years, I was the person who held everything together. I worked in frontline policing, carried responsibility seriously and learned how to continue functioning even when something inside me was struggling.
After nearly a decade of service and repeated exposure to trauma, I developed PTSD. Then, during a period when I most needed safety and support, my marriage ended through betrayal. My career, relationship, sense of safety and imagined future began collapsing at the same time.
From the outside, I could still appear capable. Internally, I felt exhausted, disconnected and unsure who I was without the roles that had defined me.
I was not looking for inspirational quotes or instructions to “move on.” I needed language for what was happening. I wanted to understand trauma, survival mode, attachment, grief and why losing the life I knew had made me feel as though I had lost myself.
The Inner Growth Path grew from that search. It became the place where I could translate emotional chaos into understanding—and help other people begin doing the same.
“You are not too far gone.
You are just somewhere on your path”
FROM SERVICE TO SELF-RECLAMATION
The Experiences That Shaped This Work
The Inner Growth Path was shaped by what I learned through service, rupture and the slow work of rebuilding.
01 • SERVICE
Learning to Carry Responsibility
My background in justice, law and frontline policing was shaped by a strong desire to protect people. It taught me courage, responsibility and the complexity of what people carry beneath the surface.
02 • RUPTURE
When the Old Identity Could No Longer Hold
PTSD, betrayal and the end of my policing career dismantled the roles through which I had understood myself. Healing became more than managing symptoms—it became an identity question.
03 • REBUILDING
Creating a Different Way Forward
Through writing, education, reflection and nervous-system awareness, I began building a life shaped less by survival and more by self-trust, values and choice.
WHAT GUIDES THE INNER GROWTH PATH
Understanding Before Self-Blame
The Inner Growth Path combines lived experience, trauma-informed education, nervous-system awareness, psychological insight and practical reflection.
Its purpose is not to diagnose or “fix” you. It is to help you understand your responses and make your next step feel more manageable.

THE FRAMEWORK BEHIND THE WORK
Healing Does Not Happen in One Straight Line
Through my own recovery and the questions that shaped this site, I developed The Identity Rebuild Path—a five-stage framework for understanding what different parts of rebuilding may require.
The stages are not deadlines, diagnoses or tests. They offer a way to identify what feels most immediate and find support that meets you there.

A NOTE ABOUT THIS SPACE
Lived Experience and Education—Not Therapy
I am a trauma-informed writer and former first responder sharing lived experience, educational resources and practical reflection tools. I am not presenting myself as a psychologist, therapist or medical practitioner.
The Inner Growth Path cannot replace individual mental-health or medical care. If you are experiencing severe distress, feel unsafe or require personalised support, please contact a qualified professional or an appropriate crisis service in your location.
